Below is a brief introduction to how we do things at chainbreakers and we'd love to have you in one of our meetings if you're struggling in any way at all. We'd love to sit down talk with you and pray with you.

We are a fellowship of men and women who have been affected either directly or indirectly by the abuse of any mood-altering chemical or compulsive behavior. We believe that as we look to a loving God for help, and put into practice those principles for living which He has given in His Word, we shall find both the strength and freedom we need to live productive and happy lives. We strongly believe that our "higher power" is Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Our five-fold purpose, based directly upon the Word of God is set forth as follows: (1) To provide fellowship in recovery (2) To be and to live reconciled to God and His family (3) To gain a better understanding of alcohol and mood-altering chemicals and the disease of addiction (4) To be built up and strengthened in our faith in Christ (5) To render dedicated service to others who are suffering as we once suffered. We hold no corporate opinions concerning politics, conomics, race, philosophy, science, or any other matter not immediately bearing upon our recovery. While we do believe that Jesus is the Christ, the resurrected and living Son of God, we hold no corporate view concerning denominational preference. We practice the suggested 12-Step recovery program of Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon and other 12 Step groups because we believe these to be the practical application of these life changing principles which are so clearly set forth in the Scriptures. We welcome anyone who has a desire to stay clean and sober; anyone who has a desire to rise above the pain and turmoil engendered by the addiction of a loved one; anyone wishing to break the bondage of compulsive behavior; anyone who is not opposed to our general method of recovery. We are here to share our experience, strength and hope with one another. The loving support and genuine caring of fellow members, coupled with daily prayer and the reading of Scripture, prepares us to experience total serenity in Christ, no matter what our outward circumstances might be. Attendance at additional 12-Step groups is encouraged. We are dedicated to the principles of anonymity and confidentiality. We guard the anonymity and confidences of other members zealously. Nothing said in these discussions will leave this room in any form. Gossip has no place among us, nor will we share these discussions with outside prayer lists. Our common welfare must come first. Our leaders are chosen not to govern but to serve. There is only one authority in our group--Jesus Christ, as He expresses His love among us.

F.R.E.E.D.: Fellowship In Recovery, Reconciliaion To God and His Family, Education About Chemicals and Addiction, Edification Through Faith in Christ, Dedicated Service To Others.

• Fellowship - 1st John 1:3-7, 'That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all Sin.'
• Reconciliation - 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 'And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.'
• Education - Proverbs 2:1-8 'My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.'
• Edification - Ephesians 3:14-21 'For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.'
• Dedicated - Galatians 5:13-14 'For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.'

The Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous with corresponding Scriptures

*These Steps work for any addiction or compulsion! Simply replace the word "alcohol with your own presenting problem. Study of these Steps is essential to progress in this program. The principles they embody are universal, applicable to everyone whatever his/her personal creed. We strive for an ever deeper understanding of these Steps and pray for God'"s wisdom to apply them to our lives.

• 1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol-that our lives had become unmanageable. "We felt we were doomed to die and saw how POWERLESS we were to help ourselves; but that was good, for then we put everything into the hands of God, who alone could save us. II Corinthians 1:9
• 2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. "A man is a fool to trust himself! But those who use God'"s wisdom are safe. Proverbs 28:26
• 3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. "Trust in the Lord completely; don'"t ever trust yourself. In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success. Proverbs 3:5-6
• 4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. "Let us examine ourselves and repent and turn again to the Lord. Let us lift our hearts and our hands to Him in heaven. Lamentations 3:40-41
• 5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. "Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. James 5:16
• 6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. "So give yourselves humbly to God� then, when you realize your worthlessness before the Lord, He will lift you up, encourage and help you. James 4:7-10
• 7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings. "But if we confess our sins to Him, He can be depended on to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. I John 1:9
• 8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all. "If you are standing before the altar�and suddenly remember that a friend has something against you, leave your sacrifice there and go and be reconciled�and then come and offer your sacrifice to God. Matthew 5:23-24
• 9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. "You can pray for anything, and if you believe, you have it; it'"s yours. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive you your sins too. Mark 11:24-25
• 10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it. "But how can I ever know what sins are lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. And keep me from deliberate wrongs; help me to stop doing them. Only then can I be set free of guilt. Psalm 19:12
• 11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out. "If you want better insight and discernment, and are searching for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure, then wisdom will be given you, and knowledge of God Himself; you will soon learn the importance of reverence for the Lord and of trusting Him. Proverbs 2:3-5
• 12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs. "Quietly trust yourself to Christ your Lord and if anybody asks why you believe as you do, be ready to tell him, and do it in a gentle and respectful way. I Peter 3:15
